Genetically modified foods are produced
from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their
DNA using the methods of genetic engineering, according to wikipedia.org. This sounds ominous, and has been the subject of much
controversy, especially the non-labeling issue. The consensus seems
for the American people, that we are just going to trust the
government and big agriculture to have our best interest in mind.
What most Americans likely aren't aware of is, we're standing nearly
alone among the world in trusting GMOs. As almost every developed
country worldwide has required labeling of GMO products. As for
America, we don't, and we should be asking why.
Big agriculture, Bio-tech companies,
and big pharmaceutical giants like: Monsanto, Dow, DuPont, Hoescht,
BASF, and Bayer -- have created “frankenfoods.” These GMO crops
such as: corn, soybean, wheat, canola oil, and cotton seed oil, have
been made toxic with the genetic alterations made to them. This
includes the addition of pesticides into the genetic make-up of the
crops. The reasoning is to make them “round-up” resistant, so
they can spray the fields with pesticides and not kill the crop. This
means there is pesticides in the food, or poison.

In 2012, the first long-term study was
done on rats (by scientists in France) to see the effects of GMO
foods. The scientists concluded the study finding the GMOs caused
horrific tumors on the rats, killing 70% of the females and
significantly reducing their 2 year average life expectancy. Also,
cancer has been linked in over 260 studies worldwide to
agrochemicals. This according to an article in Naturalnews.com called: 'Side effects of GMOs- Ask
your doctor if cancer is good for you', written by S.D.Wells.
Yet, with this and more evidence GMO's
aren't safe for humans or animals, companies like: Dow Chemical,
Monsanto, DuPont, Bayer, Dean Foods, General Mills, Kellog's, and
Smuckers -- are still fighting to keep GMO labels off
their products. One may ask, if there's nothing wrong with the
foods, then why not label them? And by the way, in 2013 GMO
ingredients are in most vaccines and flu shots (just to let you
know), according to Naturalnews.com.
Here are some of the side-effects of
GMO foods: liver cancer, kidney cancer, colon cancer, prostate
cancer, breast cancer, thyroid tumors, Parkinson's disease,
infertility, birth defects, autism, and brain tumors. Are you hungry?
Now, the part of the article that
really makes one wonder what's wrong with us Americans is where we
see how alone we are in trusting GMO products. Let me first list the
counties that don't allow GMO products to be labeled: America,
Canada, and Mexico. Now let me list the ones that require, by law,
the labeling of GMO products: Brazil, Russia, France, Italy,
Greenland, Sweden, U.K., Spain, Hungary, New Zealand, Australia,
India, Germany, and China. So basically the whole world (except
America and it's bullied neighbors) has serious reservations
consuming GMOs? Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?
